Experts say that Schumann Resonance, or the “earth’s heartbeat,” triggers an Alpha/Theta state in your brain which helps you relax, heal faster, and perform better in your day-to-day life. Keep on reading to know more.

Vibration: The Essence of The Universe

Physicist Albert Einstein once famously said, “Everything in Life is Vibration.” Sounds confusing, doesn’t it?

Schools and universities have taught us that every physical object is made of atoms, which has nothing to do with vibrations. And even if you zoom in on atoms, you see protons, electrons, and neutrons. A bit further, and you meet quarks. That’s where our current scientific understanding ends.

But many scientists believe that all physical objects are actually one-dimensional strings vibrating in different ways to make various objects. This is also the fundamental of “String Theory.”

Before his death, Albert Einstein was working on the unified field theory which is also known as the “theory of everything.” Here, he attempted to link all physical aspects of the universe together. It remains unsolved, even today. However, a few years later, scientists picked up his unsolved theory and came up with a new one called the string theory. They hypothesized that everything in this universe is essentially strings vibrating in different ways.

This, however, is not a new concept. If you look at ancient texts, you can find the concept of a vibrating universe. For instance, the Vedas (Hinduism) says that “everything that happens in our life is linked to our vibrating universe.” The Kybalion (Egyptian) says, “Differences between the various manifestations of the universal power are due entirely to the varying rate and mode of vibrations.”

The much more fascinating thing is that these concepts fall in line with the superstring theory of modern physics.

Our earth is surrounded by a vibrating electromagnetic field, operating on an extremely low frequency of 7.83 Hz. And it’s known as the Schumann Resonance.

What is Schumann Resonance?

At any given moment, 2,000 or so thunderstorms batter our planet, producing approximately 50 lightning flashes each passing second, says NASA.

These strikes create an extremely low electromagnetic field (ELF) that builds a cavity surrounding our planet from the ground to the lower ionosphere (approximately 60 miles [97 Kms] high). However, it’s not only lightning strikes that create this field. Different weather phenomena, the earth’s physics, and solar energy contribute greatly to its creation.

This extremely low EM field is known as the Schumann Resonance. It encircles the earth, vibrating at the frequency of exactly 7.83 Hz and creating a repeating beat. However, it does fluctuate from time to time. The highest we’ve reached so far was 36 Hz in 2017.

Schumann Resonance: Reading
Schumann Resonances Readings

In 1918, Physicist Winfred Otto Schumann studied the earth–ionosphere waveguide system. This later became the base for what we know today as the Schumann Resonance. And it has proven helpful for scientists to study our planet’s electric environment, weather, and seasons.

Now, let’s get to the obvious question, which is probably why you clicked on this post in the first place. How does Schumann Resonance affect you?

Can Schumann Resonance Affect Humans?

In 2016, Fox News reported an incident in which a man from Florida showed a shattered windshield on his wife’s car caused by a loud sound in the sky. Initially, they were unaware of the object that was producing the sound. But later, they found out that it was the sonic boom from some training jets passing over their house. (See video below)

Since sound is not a physical object, how could it shatter glass like a brick?

The answer lies in the concept of “frequency match.” Glass has a natural resonant frequency. And when the sound frequency from the jets matches the glass’ frequency, it shatters into pieces.

You may have also seen people shattering wine glasses with just their voices. The same concept applies here. Next time you see such videos, notice that the performer hits the wine glass before performing. It’s not showmanship. They’re finding out the glass’ frequency so that they can match it with their voice.

Another example comes to us from Anthony Holland of the Skidmore College, New York. He and his team have come up with a way to destroy cancer cells without medication or radiation. They simply use two different sound frequencies to target those cells and destroy them before they get to multiply. Watch this TED talk for more information.

EMF is Just Like Sound

Like sound, EMFs also operate on specific frequencies that can initiate a sympathetic vibration in other sources producing EMF in the same frequency—just like Holland demonstrated in the above video with tuning forks.

We, humans, are electrical beings, and our brains control our bodies using electrical signals. Through years of research, scientists have found that the electrical signals in our brains operate on different frequencies based on the state of the body. Let me explain.

When you’re highly focused, your brain produces electrical signals in the 35+Hz frequency range. But, when you’re in a deep sleep, the frequency changes to 0.5 to 4 Hz. Here’s a complete list of brain states and their frequencies.

Frequency BandFrequencyBrain States
Gamma (γ)35+ HzHigh concentration, problem solving
Beta (β)12–35 HzAnxiety dominant, active, external attention, relaxed
Alpha (α)8–12 HzVery relaxed, passive attention
Theta (θ)4–8 HzDeeply relaxed, inward-focused
Delta (δ)0.5–4 HzSleep
States of a Human Mind

Many experts say that since Schumann Resonance sits at 7.83 Hz, it creates an Alpha/Theta-like state in our brain. And since this frequency has been here from the beginning, our bodies have evolved to benefit from this exposure.

Some of the reported effects include lower cortisol levels (the stress hormone), reduced anger, better quality sleep, and faster healing.

Currently, we don’t have a lot of scientific studies to confirm or deny these claims. But one thing that we know for sure is that Schumann Resonance can alter our internal systems, which isn’t necessarily bad. How?

ELF’s Current Medical Use

The Schumann Resonance falls within the ELF-EMF range in the electromagnetic spectrum.

We have tens of thousands of research studies saying that prolonged EMF exposure is harmful to your health. And that’s true. When you expose your body to EMFs in the ELF (extremely low frequency), RF (radiofrequency), and microwave ranges, it can create health problems ranging from sleep disorders to cardiac disease and even cancer.

But did you know that ELF exposure in the right dose can actually treat people for several health problems?

The medical industry has been using this kind of therapy for a long time. And it works just as effectively as medicines used for pain relief, bone fractures, and wound healing.

If you want to learn more about EMF’s use in medicine, you can visit my post, “How EMF is Used Therapeutically in Medicine to Heal.”

Schumann Resonance, according to experts, has the right frequency to create sympathetic resonant vibrations in our brains, which in turn gives us many health benefits.

But the problem is most of us aren’t benefitting from it. Why?

We’re Overexposed

EMFs tend to interfere with each other. You may have seen this with ringing cell phones near microphone amplifiers. When you bring a ringing phone near the amp, it gives you a lot of feedback. And as soon as you take it far away, the feedback stops.

You can find another excellent example of EMF’s interference in data centers. If you’ve ever visited one, you might have seen that the servers are completely shielded with conductive materials like metals. They do this because those servers transfer millions of GBs of data every minute, and interference to that process can cause major problems.

Today, we’re surrounded by dense human-made EMF, especially in cities, and there’s little to no place to escape. Experts say that the EMF in our environment causes massive interferences to earth’s Schumann Resonance. Because of this, most of us can’t enjoy the benefits of being exposed to it.

So, what’s the way out? How do you benefit from Schumann Resonance with this much EMF surrounding our environment?

What Can You Do?

Thankfully, there are many ways you can connect to the earth’s heartbeat and reap the benefits that come from it. Here are two of them.

Grounding

Grounding, also known as earthing, is by far the most effective way of exposing yourself to Schumann Resonance.

The practice of grounding has gained massive popularity in the last few years. And not only among the general population but in the scientific community as well. In the past decade, many research studies have shown the positive effects of grounding on humans.

Experts say that it’s one of the best ways to reduce your EMF exposure and protect your body from a number of EMF-induced health problems. Here’s a list of benefits that you receive if you start practicing grounding for 30 minutes daily:

  1. Reduced cortisol levels, leading to pain relief, improved sleep, and reduced stress.
  2. It “combats positively charged free radicals generated by inflammatory factors as they respond to injury, infection, trauma or stress.”
  3. Improved circulation and cardiovascular health by reducing red blood cell clumping.
  4. It can reduce muscle damage from exercise.
  5. It can improve your mood.

The best part about it is, you don’t have to spend a penny. You can just pick a time in your day and go someplace where you can connect your body to the ground. Local parks are the best for grounding. You can walk barefoot on the grass, you can lie there for some time, or you can do some activities. Just make sure that the activity doesn’t involve spending time on your phone.

Grounding with bare feet on grass

This will do two things. One, you’ll be away from your electronic gadgets, which means less EMF exposure. And two, you’ll connect to the earth’s heartbeat and receive a ton of benefits.

If you’d like to learn more about grounding, I have a separate post that explains this concept in-depth.

ELF-PEMF Therapy

April 12, 1961, marked the date for the first human ever to enter space. It was Yuri Gagarin, who flew on a one-orbit journey around earth in a Soviet capsule. After Gagarin, many other people followed, which gave scientists enough data to understand the effects of space travel on humans.

Researchers found that the astronauts who returned from space suffered fatigue, depression, bone loss, and other unexplained symptoms. Initially, they didn’t understand what the primary cause was. But, after some studying, they found out that besides weightlessness, one of the significant factors contributing to these health problems was lack of exposure to earth’s magnetic field – i.e., Schumann Resonance.

The solution was to re-create the earth’s magnetic field in space, which is precisely what they did. They created a device that exposed the astronauts to pulsed electromagnetic fields at 6 to 30 Hz range.

NASA’s 2003 extensive paper describes the effectiveness of PEMF therapy on humans. This also became the building base for PEMF therapy devices.

You can simply go to PEMF therapy centers and ask for this therapy. And if you don’t want to go to a therapy center, there are some devices that allow you to do this therapy at home.

Final Thoughts

Schumann Resonance is not something spiritual or metaphysical. It’s scientifically measurable energy that has positive impacts on your body.

Inarguably, it still needs a lot of research to understand its full potential. But one thing that we know for sure is that it has incredible benefits and little to no known side effects. So why not start tuning in to mother earth’s heartbeat today?
